Title III Technology Integration

Overview

An important component of the Title III grant is to support initiatives aimed at integrating technology with instruction—to the degree that is relevant and desirable for given courses (as determined by faculty). Funding for technology improvements will create a more attractive, stimulating, and meaningful liberal arts learning environment at MHC, helping faculty explore pedagogical innovations that advance teaching and learning. To support this endeavor, Instructional Technologist, Marty Gilbert, will work with faculty to increase their expertise with classroom-based technology.  In this capacity, Marty will help people develop Individualized Technology Integration Training Plans (ITPs) that are tailored to the needs and interests of MHC faculty.

Technology Initiatives
  • Upgrade a total of 30 faculty computers and discipline-specific software
  • Implement a Learning Management System (Moodle)
  • Develop 10 "smart" classrooms (e.g. laptop connectivity, LCD projection, DVD/VCR, sound, smartboard-sympodium, document camera)
  • Furnish 20 technology-enabled classrooms (e.g. laptop connectivity, LCD projection, DVD/VCR, sound)
  • Construct a faculty designed Center for Teaching and Learning that includes state-of-the-art instructional technology.
Title III Technology Goals
  • MHC instructional environments will reflect those of peer institutions
  • 2009--65% of degree programs will reflect appropriate levels of technology integration
  • 2011--200% improvement in faculty use of technology for instruction
  • 2011--100% of students will experience instruction in “smart” or tech-enhanced classrooms
