Purpose
The purpose of the WNC intercollegiate league is to foster and promote the sport of disc golf in the Western North Carolina region and other nearby areas by bringing colleges with Disc Golf teams together in an organized format.  The WNC Disc Golf Club, an aspiring not for profit organization, plans to not only facilitate these tournaments but also will assist each college by appointing an experienced club member to act as a coach and liaison for the college team.  Furthermore, we hope to bring together college students from around the region in a fun, exciting, and competitive nature. 

Format
The fifth season of the WNC Intercollegiate Disc Golf Challenge will take place from September 2007 to April 2008 and will consist of six separate tournaments at five different locations.  Each school will have the opportunity to host a tournament and are encouraged to hold some form of a social gathering including all players after the tournament has finished. Tournament formats will stay consistent throughout the whole year to encourage both elite and recreational play.

Rules of Play
·    All PDGA rules apply during tournaments
·    A team player must be a degree-seeking student to receive points for their college
·    To receive points, a player must complete the entire round of disc golf
·    Players must check in with the tournament director – Please arrive one hour early!

Format for Tournaments

• Points will be distributed to the teams that have the individual players with the lowest scores for that day.  For example, if the lowest score of the day belongs to a player from UNCA, then UNCA will receive the points for that player’s performance.
• The amount of players that will receive points for their score will correspond to the fewest number of players that any one team brings to the tournament.  For example, if Mars Hill brings 11 players to the tournament and UNCA only brings 4 players to the tournament, then points will be distributed for the lowest 4 scores of the day.
• The points that are distributed will equal the number of players that are being awarded points.  For instance, if the 5 lowest scores are receiving points based on the above format, then 1st Place = 5 points, 2nd Place = 4 points, 3rd Place = 3 points, etc… In the event of a tie between two players there will be a sudden death play off that will last until one player wins a hole outright. 
• Each team will be awarded one point for each player that they bring to the tournament.  That means that if a college brings 12 players then they automatically have 12 points before beginning play.  In every tournament each team will be awarded an extra 2 points for every woman player on their team that completed the round of golf regardless of their score; no more than five women from any one team will be given points – maximum extra points equals no more than ten. 

All tournaments will begin promptly at 2:00 and we recommend that players arrive one hour prior to the starting time.  Directions to each of these courses can be found on our website at www.wncdiscgolf.com.  You also can go to the college website and find directions to the different colleges.

Scoring of Individual Tournaments
At the end of each tournament, individual player’s points will be added up with the points of their teammates to get the total team score. The team that accumulates the most points wins that individual tournament.
The winning college from each tournament will have earned the right to return to their school with the WNC Intercollegiate Disc Golf Challenge Trophy. This trophy is a mini-basket that will have tags dangling from the chains. For each tournament that a team wins, they will have their name engraved on a tag and hung on the basket. The winning team is responsible for bringing the trophy to the next tournament. This trophy will be provided by and maintained through the courtesy of the WNC Disc Golf Club, the local organization that is sponsoring and facilitating the league.

Overall Champions
At the end of the season all points from each college gathered during the season will be added up to determine which school is the overall champion for the season. This team will then have the right to retain the trophy until the beginning of the next season. Furthermore, each player from that college that participated in two or more tournaments will receive a free membership to the WNC Disc Golf Club. This membership is valid for one year and provides discounts on all club merchandise, chances to win free disc golf gear, as well as keeping the player updated on all disc golf happenings in the WNC region.
