We
are committed to creating
a safe, confidential environment
in the Counseling Center.
All of the information shared
during therapy sessions
is considered confidential.
There are a few situations
in which counselors are required
by law to reveal information
obtained during counseling
to other persons or agencies
without your permission.
These situations are as
follows:
- If you
threaten bodily harm or
death to yourself or to
another person, counselors
are required by law to
inform the appropriate
authorities,
- If a court
of law issues a legitimate
subpoena, we are required
by law to provide the
information specifically
described in the subpoena,
- If you
reveal information relative
to the abuse and neglect
of a child or elderly
person, we are required
to report this to the
appropriate authority,
and
- If we
believe you intend to
harm yourself or another
person, we are required
to inform appropriate
authorities.
The
only other times that information
shared in therapy will leave
the room are as follows:
- Information
that is shared with our
clinical supervisors,
who are thoroughly bound
to the confidentiality
standards stated above,
and
- Information
that is shared at your
request, in which case
we will always have you
sign a consent form for
release of information.
