Religion & Philosophy Alumni
Graduates with majors and minors from the Religion/Philosophy Department at MHC are working in a variety of fields, including teaching (from early childhood education to law school), law, the military, church professions (ministers, chaplains—hospital, prison; youth leaders), social workers and counselors, non-profit leadership, journalism, and business.
Jessica Blanford, Class of 2009: double major in Religion/Philosophy and History. Now working as an Americorps/Vista worker at Brevard College.
Josh Boatwright, Class of 2005: Religion/Philosophy major, interested in journalism. Works on staff of the Asheville Citizen Times.
Andrew Chilton, Class of 2008: double major in Religion/Philosophy and English. In graduate school for a Master’s in Theological Studies at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, CO.
Keely Hollahan, Class of 2008: double major in Religion/Philosophy and psychology. Did an Americorps job in Montana doing environmental work and is now in a second Americorps job in Washington, D.C. working with homeless women with H.I.V.
Josh Lail, Class of 2007: Religion/Philosophy major. Currently in seminary and working at a Methodist Church in Valdese, NC.
Lindsay Schrenkel, Class of 2009: double major in Religion/Philosophy and art. Did an internship with the college chaplain while at MHC. Now is a college chaplain at UNCA.
Gray Spainhour, Class of 2006: double major in Religion/Philosophy & Spanish. Now teaching ESL in Henderson County, NC.
Eric Smith, Class of 2000: double major in Religion/Philosophy and English. Earned his M.Th. at Vanderbilt University; then worked on the pastoral staff at Biltmore United Methodist Church in Asheville; now is in a Ph.D. program in Religion at the University of Denver/Iliff School of Theology.
