Upward Bound Students Perform Service Project

MHC Upward Bound students were hard at work on campus recently, performing a service project as part of the UB summer program. Working with grounds supervisor Mark Norwood, the students pulled up an old, cracked sidewalk located on “men’s hill” so that the walkway can be replaced.

Upward Bound is a college prep program for 9th – 12th graders attending Asheville, Erwin, North Buncombe, Madison, Mitchell and Mountain Heritage high schools in Western North Carolina, funded by the US Department of Education. These students are part of a service-learning class this summer, doing volunteer projects and learning about non-profits.
