Spring Commencement 2012 Brings Some Changes

Live streaming video of graduationMars Hill College will hold spring commencement ceremonies in combination with its baccalaureate service on Saturday, May 12, beginning at 9:30 am in Moore Auditorium on the campus. Family and friends who are unable to be present for the upcoming Spring, 2012 Mars Hill College graduation, can see the event streaming live here on the Mars Hill College website.

Dr. Guy Sayles, pastor of First Baptist Church of Asheville, will give the baccalaureate address.

Commencement speakers will be Rachel Connor, an English and Spanish major from Granite Falls, NC; and Edgar Silva Marroquin, a Spanish major from Mars Hill, NC who is a student in MHC’s adult education program. The invocation will be given by Jaimie Little, a zoology major from Fayetteville, GA.

Expected graduates number 138. Of those students, 116 are traditional age and 22 are students in MHC’s adult programs. Eighty-seven of the expected graduates are from North Carolina, while 38 are from out of state and 13 are international students. Among expected graduates, the most popular majors are business (business administration and business management); education (elementary, integrated, middle grade); and social work.

There will be a reception immediately following the graduation on the upper quad of the campus.

(In recent years, baccalaureate and the Senior Celebration dinner have been held on the Friday afternoon prior to commencement. This year Senior Celebration was held following graduation rehearsal, and baccalaureate moves to Saturday morning.)
