Exam week is tough, which is why Mars Hill University normally provides “stress-buster” activities for students just before exams begins.
As the end of the fall 2013 semester draws near, Mars Hill will be inviting some special ambassadors of stress relief to campus for a day of cute and cuddly fun: puppies!
Play with a Puppy Dog Day will take place December 11 in Bentley Fellowship Hall, beside Broyhill Chapel on the campus. December 11 is also Reading Day, the day before exams begin on December 12.
In addition to being a stress reliever for students, Play with a Puppy Dog Day is an adoption event, and a fundraiser for the Madison County Animal Foundation. From 10 am until 3 pm, students who want to play with a puppy will pay only $2 for 15 minutes of cuddle time. For $4, students can have 30 minutes of play time with the puppy. All proceeds will go to the foundation.
Following the event for students, members of the community are free to visit with the puppies and consider adoption from 3 until 4:30 pm.
Play with a Puppy Dog Day is sponsored by the MHU Honors Program. Maslyn Greene, an MHU student who is helping organize the event, said that the Honors Program students wanted to provide an event that everyone could enjoy and afford.
“We wanted to sponsor an event that everybody could take part in and that would be a great stress reliever for exam week,” Greene said. “This is a chance to blow off some steam, forget about everything, and just concentrate on some cute little puppies. Plus, it’s a fundraiser for a good cause.”
Greene said the ultimate hope of the Honors students is that every puppy finds a home before the day is over.
