Dr. Walter Ziffer, Holocaust Survivor, To Share His Story
In conjunction with International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Mars Hill College will host “An Evening with Walter Ziffer” on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 7 pm in Broyhill Chapel.
Dr. Walter Ziffer, a biblical scholar and retired Mars Hill College professor, grew up in what is now the Czech Republic, and survived four years in German concentration camps when he was a teenager. His presentation is sponsored by the Mars Hill College LifeWorks Learning Partnership, with additional grant monies from the Ford Foundation. Admission is free.
According to Dallas Thompson, North Carolina Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA worker for LifeWorks at the college, hearing Ziffer’s story goes beyond an interest in history to a responsibility to one’s fellow man.
“The opportunity to bear witness to a survivor’s experience is an extraordinary one,” she said. “We’re so fortunate to have someone like Dr. Ziffer on campus and we have a responsibility to listen and to learn from him.”
A reception will follow in Bentley Fellowship Hall.
