Honor Scholars at Mars Hill College actively engage with the challenges facing the world today. Those challenges range from hunger and homelessness to the needs of at risk youth and environmental protection, and beyond. Honor Scholars are also leaders in the classroom, in the resident halls, and in extracurricular settings.

Scholars participate in over 300 hours of engaged learning and leadership development activities over the course of four years, giving Honor Scholars a portfolio and résumé, as well as a degree.

Mars Hill College invites select students accepted for regular admission to the fall 2006 academic term to apply for the Honor Scholars Program. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be contacted by the Admissions Office to schedule an on-campus interview on one of three Honor Scholars Days. Interview groups, composed of Mars Hill faculty, staff, and current scholars, make award decisions for five prestigious scholarships: Bonner, Church Leadership, Grayson, Marshbanks-Anderson, and Leo G. White. Each scholarship has slightly different eligibility criteria and maintenance requirements, but all encourage high academic achievement, community service, and student leadership both on and off campus.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the Honor Scholars Program, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and either a minimum combined SAT-Critical Reasoning (Verbal)/SAT-Math score of 1100 or a minimum composite ACT score of 24. Some scholarships have additional criteria, including state of residency, anticipated major or minor, class rank, or financial need.

Maintenance Requirements
Honor scholarships require that each Mars Hill College Honor Scholar

  • maintain a 3.2 GPA;
  • participate in a minimum of 35 hours of community service activities each semester (minimum of 140 hours for Bonner Scholars, who can apply for exclusive summer stipends & travel service programs);
