In preparing for a meaningful life and meaningful work, graduates of Mars Hill College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an education concentration demonstrate:
Knowledge
English education majors acquire and apply knowledge of diverse historical and contemporary literatures, including various genres of British, American, and World, as well as literatures written by women, authors of color, and works written for young adults, and composition theory and practice.
Effective Communication
English education majors know and understand written and oral composing processes and understand the range, impact, and influence of technology, print, and non-print media in constructing meaning.
Informed, Critical, and Creative Thinking
English majors research, analyze, and critique literary and professional texts and their contexts in original and illuminating ways.
Aesthetic Awareness
English majors exhibit, both as readers and writers, an awareness of the elements of literature and composition and the means by which they convey thought, emotion, and perception.
Personal Growth and Social Responsibility
English majors demonstrate personal and professional integrity by meeting deadlines, by working both independently and collaboratively, and by avoiding plagiarism.
