Unit Research, Assessment, and Evaluation

Pre-Admission to Teacher Education

The Mars Hill College Teacher Education Unit has been involved in performance evaluation since 1998. The development of a comprehensive, organized, and practical evaluation system has enhanced our assessment practices by providing the unit with a model for ongoing, consistent assessment of all candidates in all licensure areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our model, the Comprehensive Candidate Assessment System (CCAS)is closely aligned with NCATE Standard 2, Assessment System and Unit Operations. From 2004– 2012, CCAS was managed in part by Livetext, a web-based data management system, which facilitates the manipulation of data for program improvement. In the summer 2012, the unit transitioned to TaskStream, a web-based software company dedicated to assessment and accountability processes, learning achievement, and continuous improvement. The transition was based on candidate feedback, data from reports on courses and programs in Live Text, and the Assessment Committee’s recommendations. Through CCAS, the unit is able to monitor the health and vitality of its licensure programs.

Dr. Jessica Van Cleave is currently serving as the Director of Assessment, replacing Dr. Jim Brown, who served from 2004-2012.
