Educational Scholarships

Below is a list of endowed funds which are fully and/or partly awarded by the Education Department to deserving education majors.  To be considered for any of these four awards, please contact the Financial Aid office. 

Nesbitt Scholarship
Applicant Criteria: Education major from Buncombe County, North Carolina.  Full-time student with minimum 3.0 GPA.  All college work must be completed at Mars Hill College.  Student must exhibit financial need.

Esther Wilson Scholarship
Applicant Criteria:  Elementary education major, maintaining full-time status and a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Must exhibit academic achievement, leadership, and financial need. 

Mildred Wise-Hodge Scholarship
Applicant Criteria:  Priority for this award is given to students who plan a career in music education and show financial need.  Full-time status and a minimum 3.0 GPA required.

John & Beverly Hough Scholarship
Applicant Criteria:  Awarded to students who have been formally admitted into the Teacher Education Program.  Must exhibit academic achievement and financial need.  Full-time status and must maintain a 3.0 GPA.  First priority for this award wll go to descendents of John & Liillian Hough, Sr., and Gary & Jo Nance, and second to citizens of Madison County, North Carolina.
