REQUIREMENTS FOR LATERAL ENTRY
A. The provisional licensed teacher
(lateral entry) and the employing school
system submit transcripts to the Regional
Alternative Licensing Center (located
at 120 Marsh Avenue, NW, Charlotte, NC 28025
Phone: 704-792-2709) for a transcript
evaluation.
B. The Regional Alternative Licensing
Center will evaluate the transcripts
and suggest a plan of study.
C. If the provisional licensed
teacher selects Mars Hill College to
pursue permanent licensure, he/she makes
an appointment with the Chair of the
Education Department and a copy of the
suggested plan of study and letter confirming
employment by the public school system
should be provided.
D. The provisional licensed teacher
applies for admission to the college
through the Adult ACCESS Program and
takes the courses as outlined by the
Regional Alternative Licensing Center.
E. Lateral entry students must
attain a cumulative minimum 2.50 grade
point average and meet PRAXIS II testing
requirements as outlined by the North
Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
F. Upon completion of the requirements
outlined in the initial transcript evaluation
or its equivalent, he/she is recommended
for licensure by the Regional Alternative Licensing
Center or by the school system.
