Employment Assistance
The Career Development Center, located in
the LifeWorks office below Renfro Library,
provides career advice and job placement
assistance. Career interest tests and inventories
are used to help students determine their
vocational preferences and to provide guidance
in choosing a major area of study. Career
planning is encouraged from Year One at
college, with service learning, internships
and informational interviewing being part
of the process. Job search services include
workshops, network building and individual
assistance in resume writing, improving
interviewing skills, and participation in
local and regional job fairs. A comprehensive
website containing job and service learning
databases and links to current resources,
is regularly updated. In addition, the Center
publishes a quarterly newsletter profiling
student, graduate and faculty activities
in various career fields, with one focusing
on Education each year.
The Career Resource Library in the Career
Development Center, as well as a display
area in Wren Student Life building, contains
college catalogs, graduate school guides,
life and career planning guides, occupational
information and other related materials.
The Education Department also assists graduates
in securing teaching positions. A
bulletin board in the Education Department
and electronic messages are used to announce
current employment opportunities.
