Young Kim
So Young Kim is from South Korea. She found out about
Mars Hill College when she began taking voice lessons
from Dr. Julie Fortney while attending Enka High School.
After looking at some other colleges and universities
she decided Mars Hill College was the place for her.
She loved the choir and the choral festival. But, the
thing that made her choose Mars Hill was the diversity.
The students faculty and staff made her feel “welcome
and at home.”
Did you come to Mars Hill College
knowing what your major would be?
I came to Mars Hill as a music
major. I had been singing and taking voice lessons for
years. I was not happy as a music major, it did not feel
like the right fit for me. My sophomore year I switched
to Business Administration. I felt it would give me the
opportunity to do many different things, including Real
Estate which I am very interested in.
What are you favorite memories of MHC?
Pledging Sigma Alpha Chi sorority my freshman year, and
making awesome friends is a lot of my best memories. I
love being a sorority sister. I was involved with all
sorts of extra-curricular activities. I also gave campus
tours which allowed me to meet new people and introduce
new students to the campus. I also liked singing in Choir,
it allowed me to be involved with music even though I
changed my major.
How do you feel your education has prepared you for your
career?
I think I am very well prepared. I
have even been surprised at some of the subjects I have
found most enjoyable. I wasn’t interested at all
in Accounting until I had Mr. Berzinski. Now I love accounting!
There are many things I have learned and feel prepared
to use in everyday life. I think the education I received
was very good. I learned a lot. Even though Mars Hill
College is expensive, I think its very well worth the
extra cost.
What do you have planned for the future?
To graduate in December and get my
Real Estate and Brokers License. I want to either start
a franchise business or my own Real Estate Agency. After
two years I want to go to Graduate School.
