"I really enjoy long walks
on the beach, no, make that runs. I like to sing in my
car and dancing is a must. Lemonade is a delicacy and
caviar is for people who think that's a delicacy. I can't
whistle, but I can snap. I like to tell elaborate fake
stories but tell the truth right after."
How did you find out
about MHC?
I first heard about Mars Hill when I found out that an
upperclassman from high school was going to attend there.
When my senior year rolled around and our class visited
a local College Fair, I decided to check out the MHC table.
The representative there was really friendly and knowledgeable
and gave me a wave on my application fee. From the brochures
I found that Mars Hill had all I was interested in, so
I filled out the information and sent it in.
What
is your favorite thing about being a student here?
My favorite thing about the Hill has changed as I have
spent more time here. When I was a freshman, I can remember
stepping out of Stroup dorm in the mornings to go to
class and seeing the most beautiful dawn sky behind
the mountain landscape and thinking, "I can't believe
I get to go to school here!" My sophomore year,
I really appreciated the small classes and personal
feel of the campus. As a junior, I began to realize how
many great opportunities to get easily connected to
the community there were and took advantage of internships
and job positions that have helped prepare me for my
future career. Now in my senior year, I really appreciate
Asheville and all the opportunities and learning experiences
it has to offer students, from art galleries to great
restaurants.
What are your
future plans?
Thanks to the experience I've gained through internships,
campus organizations, and studio classes I will be qualified
for numerous options when I graduate. I plan to work
in the fields of Graphic Design and Photography, whether
that means starting my own business or serving a company,
I look forward to doing something I love.
Do you feel
MHC has prepared you for the career you want?
Having a computer lab specifically for graphic arts
majors, complete with imacs and other standard equipment
was essential in preparing me for the realm of the professional
design world. There is nothing better than hands-on
experience for career preparation, whether it's done
in class or for an internship.
What is your
favorite memory of MHC?
Every Monday night of my sophomore year, a bunch of
us would go over to our friend's apartment at Dickson-Palmer
for what we started to call "Game Night".
We were all tired from busy mondays, but it was like
we forgot everything when we were in the middle of a
game of "Mafia". We played so many different
types of games, watched movies, just hung out, ate snacks,
and as the night went on sometimes we would break out
a guitar or turn the night into a worship time. We had
a lot of fun and developed many close friendships. No
one ever wanted to leave, so I'll always remember those
times.
