Alumni and Friends 2013 Tour of Turkey and Greece
Dear Friends,
I am writing to tell you of our exciting 2013 Mars Hill College Alumni and Friends tour. We will be traveling to the beautiful countries of Turkey and Greece, where we’ll enjoy a land tour in both countries as well as a cruise of the Greek Isles. Dates of our adventure are June 18 through June 30, 2013. The tour includes land and air travel (from New York), entrance fees and luggage handling, hotel accommodations, eleven breakfasts, three lunches and seven dinners. We will have a Turkish/Greek tour escort sharing his/her knowledge as we journey about these beautiful countries aboard an air-conditioned deluxe motor coach. We will also have Dr. Tom Sawyer, MHC Professor Emeritus of religion, accompanying us. Dr. Sawyer has studied and taught about the journeys of the Apostle Paul and the churches of the Book of Revelation for many years, sharing his wealth of knowledge with many of our alumni who took his classes. As we travel throughout Turkey and Greece, Dr. Sawyer will add meaning to our experience by sharing his biblical knowledge of the places we visit.
Our tour will begin in Istanbul, Turkey, where we’ll visit the Blue Mosque, St. Sophia Basilica, the Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar and much more. From there we will travel south crossing the Strait of Dardanelles and visit the ancient city of Troy. We’ll visit the sites of the seven churches of the Book of Revelation: Pergamum, Thyatira, Smyrna, Sardis, Ephesus, Philadelphia and Laodicea. We’ll see the ruins of Hierapolis and visit Pamukkale, known for its Roman baths with white lime cascades. We’ll visit the reputed home of the Virgin Mary and St. John’s Basilica where according to legend John is buried. Our tour continues to the port city of Kusadasi where we’ll board our cruise ship bound for the Greek Isles. We’ll visit the islands of Patmos, Rhodes, Crete and Santorini before disembarking in Athens, Greece. We’ll visit the ancient city of Corinth where Paul lived and preached. Then, we’ll spend our final day in Athens touring the city and visiting many of its famous sites, including the Parthenon and the original “Mars Hill.”
I had the privilege of traveling to Turkey and Greece with Dr. Sawyer several years ago and found Turkey and Greece to be two of the most beautiful countries in the world. The accommodations and food were great and the people were most courteous and friendly. I remember the tour with great fondness and look forward to my return next summer.
