Meet the Admissions Staff
AOL StatusHi, my name is Jon Marsden and my wife Laura and I are new to the Asheville area. We came here from Colorado where I was a Youth Director at a wonderful church in downtown Colorado Springs and she was a high school teacher. Before that, we both taught at Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida and even before that we worked with Young Life in North Palm Beach. We moved to the area to be near to our family, for my wife to work at TC Roberson, and because I love to mountain bike. I am thrilled to be a new part of the Mars Hill family and enjoy my work here as I am constantly meeting new students to help them think through their College options. If you ever have any questions, or just want to talk, I will always drop whatever I am doing to go mountain biking… Did I say that out loud? What I meant to say is that I love visitors and am always ready to listen and help in any way that I can.
Title: Admissions Counselor Hi, my name is Sarah Griggs and I am an Admissions Counselor for Mars Hill College. I am here to help you with the admissions process and to answer any questions you might have along the way.
Mars Hill is an exciting place to be! I decided to move here in 2008 when I fell in love with the area and the exciting community that Mars Hill College and nearby Asheville have to offer. I enjoy being outdoors and the Blue Ridge Mountains are ideal for hiking and camping. As an English Literature major, I also enjoy the strong presence of theatre, literature, and music that seem to thrive in our community.
I would love to have you come visit our beautiful campus, meet professors, and discover what makes Mars Hill so unique. Please give me a call anytime. I look forward to meeting you!

Hi, my name is Sara Clark and I am an Admissions Counselor at Mars Hill College. I just graduated from MHC in May 2009. Originally from Tennessee, I came to Mars Hill College because of its great location and small classes, and I just knew it was the right place for me! We have a saying here: “There’s just something about this place”—it is completely true! At a Liberal Arts College you will be exposed to knowledge far beyond what you could imagine in and out of the classroom.
I trust that if you come to visit you will find that you will find out that Mars Hill can easily be your home away from home!
Please visit MHC so I can share all of the benefits we have to offer. I would love to meet you.
Title: Admissions Counselor Hello, my name is Laurel Young and I recently transitioned from faculty to staff here at MHC. I have taught in the English Department and the Upward Bound summer program here. I grew up in Atlanta and then lived in Nashville for several years while I completed my doctorate. My family has lived in Asheville for about 7 years, and my sister is a recent MHC graduate. I've just returned to the area after spending a year in Seattle, and am delighted to be here! I'm getting married April 18, and my fiance and I are looking forward to making our home here in the beautiful WNC mountains. It will be a pleasure to meet you and introduce you to this very special school and all it has to offer.
Hello, my name is Abby Burt. I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska, but most recently called the Pacific Northwest home. I spent time in Portland, Oregon, working for a small college, and then headed to Alaska for two fun years working for an adventure tourism company. My husband and I set out on a new adventure when we decided to move to beautiful Western North Carolina, and we’re so glad we did! We love it here!
At Mars Hill, I assist the Admissions department by providing insight—all the facts, figures, and fun stuff—about prospective students. I am so pleased to be a part of the Mars Hill College community, and I hope you will get in touch with us to find out all that truly makes Mars Hill a very special place.
