“My name is Samantha Delgado and I am a third year professional pharmacy candidate. I am from a small town called Oviedo, Fl. Currently, I attend graduate school at Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences located in Tallahassee, Fl. I graduated from Mars Hill College in 2009 with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Spanish. Believe me when I say, the best four years of my life happened at Mars Hill. I have met some incredible people along the way and had some awesome experiences that I will never forget. I am grateful that Mars Hill has prepared me for this next chapter in my life. I had great mentors and professors who gave me guidance and support when I needed it the most. The small class sizes allowed me to get to know my professors on a more personal level and I still keep in touch with them to this day. When I first came to the hill, I told my dad to turn the car around because I was nervous. Of course he didn’t listen to me, but I’m glad he didn’t. Little did I know that this small, private school located in Mars Hill, North Carolina was going to change my life for the better.”

I also serve as staff Advisor for Shabach Gospel Choir, a student organization that ministers through song and praise dance on campus, as well as in the Seguin/San Antonio Community. I am currently working towards an Ed.D in Higher Education Administration through the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University (Boston, MA). I hold a B.S. in Computer Science from Mars Hill College, ‘06 and a Master of Entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University. I serve on the Mars Hill College Alumni Board and have served on the New Creation Community Development Corporation Board. I am also a member of the Advancement of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in San Antonio, TX. Most recently, I was elected as a fellow for the 10 year anniversary class of the African-American Leadership Institute (AALI) of San Antonio where I will participate in a 10 month leadership program for emerging leaders in San Antonio. The AALI awarded me a full scholarship to participate in the program. In my spare time, I am actively involved in the music ministry at New Creation Fellowship Church where I serve as the church drummer. My wife, La’Zendra, and I are expecting our first child in November of this year. We have been married for 2 1/2 years.”

“I was born in Florida and fate took me away from the beaches and into the mountains.  I miss the Appalachian Mountains which are quite a sight to behold!  Upon my admittance to Mars Hill as a Bonner scholar, I recognized the value and personal attention this faculty and staff has on each student.  No matter your major, the insight and integrity lays the foundation for knowledge to blossom.  The theories I learned in class and application of them through internships provided me with a comprehensive resume to work anywhere.  Living on a small private campus gives you a tight community that empowers students to take ownership of your education.  The comfort of being in touch with natural beauty and knowing your campus community still can exist in the plugged-in world of today.  Long live the Lions!”

I attended MHC from 2004-2008. I received a BA in English with a teaching certificate. I have been teaching sophomore and junior English at West Rowan High School in Mt. Ulla, NC for 4 years now. I LOVE MY JOB! Encouraging students to love reading is my favorite part of the job. I also love the extracurricular activities. My husband attended ASU, and is also a teacher. He teaches 3rd grade at Isenburg Elementary in Salisbury. We have a one year old daughter named Anna, and she is our favorite pass-time. I loved my time at Mars Hill. I feel that I received a quality education. My professors were caring and insightful, and I gained a lot of knowledge pertaining to my subject area. I also met life-long friend while I was there. We spent a great deal of time exploring the mountains and growing in friendship. I think MHC is a great fit for anyone who wants the comforts of home and the challenge of a stellar school.
