MHC Admissions Presents:
Faculty Highlights

If you were to ask a student at Mars Hill, "What is your favorite thing about Mars Hill?" the response most often would be the TEACHERS. So, we thought we’d show you just how awesome they really are. Each week we will post a blog highlighting one of our amazing faculty members.

Jeff Anderson: Recreation & Sport Management

“I try to stay involved because that helps me as I work with students, teaching them how to encourage folks to get out and live a healthy lifestyle.”
-Jeff Anderson

Jeff Anderson is an assistant professor of Recreation and Sport Management here at Mars Hill College. He also is the program’s Sport Management coordinator. Professor Anderson enjoys working with small groups, so working at MHC is a great fit for him. Prior to teaching Jeff was a park manager at an outdoor recreation and environmental education park where students had the opportunity to go canoeing, sky diving, caving, and learn about our environment. At one point Jeff managed the outdoor recreation program for Girl Scouts of USA.

Jeff spends his summers on the golf course and tennis courts. You also can find him umpiring behind home plate at baseball and softball games. Jeff frequently is involved with trail design and development with organizations that seek his advice. Jeff has the privilege to help train staff for parks and recreation departments and camps. And he volunteers with programs in which he takes folks rock climbing and rafting.

For Jeff it’s all about encouraging folks to get out and live a healthy lifestyle. And the fact that he lives out what he teaches in the classroom plays a huge role for students in the recreation program.  Jeff is able to teach from hands-on experience as opposed to straight from a book (yes, books are still assigned for class!).
